Background:
Georgia Tech's School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) Communication Program prepares engineering students for the workplace by providing them with opportunities to learn and refine communication skills.

Role:
Information architecture, content development, Web design and development, implementation.

Process & Results:
The Communication Program Web site provides program information and access to the resources and tools used in communication instruction. Tools include communication excellence criteria students use to check their writing, presentation style guides, and sample slides.

The implementation incorporates a PHP front end to a MySQL database of workplace material samples obtained directly from the engineering workplace. Documents collected include technical reports, e-mails, white papers, and presentation slides. Students and faculty can browse the real world communication materials side-by-side with helpful guides that explain pertinent aspects of the document under review, including its purpose, how often it is produced, and the audience for which it is intended.
